| In an effort to keep alive the spirit of 1960's countercultural icon, Abbie
Hoffman, we are proud to offer Steal This T-Shirt! Lending the cover
and catch phrase of Hoffman's self-published book, this strikingly blunt tee
hopes to tap into the next generation. Those that lived through the chaotic
and turbulent years should recognize the image at a glance. It is the exact
replication of the book cover with T-Shirt replacing Book. The font was kept
true to the original and the stark black, white and red colored inks stay exactly
the same. A bit of gimmickry, but a definite eye catcher. As the title suggests,
this will certainly be an item to have a lot of fun with! You cannot walk into
a room or gathering without getting comments or having someone try and steal
your shirt! Abbie Hoffman solicited Steal This Book to 30 different publishers, but was rejected by all. He then decided to publish it himself and sold an amazing 260 thousand copies in 1971! Steal This Book essentially was handbook for the counter culture to arm themselves against the establishment, a survival guide of sorts. Along the way, it was very philisophical and informative, not to mention showing one how to acquire things very inexpensively or for free! From bomb making to pot growing to first aid for street fighting, Abbie gave us his insight into everything which meant something to this new generation of thought. Co-founder of the Youth International Party, which followers were dubbed Yippies, Abbie led thsi movement into action. His agenda focused on protest of the Vietnam War, the environment, and the freedoms and civil rights for all individuals. Always battling the corporate power structures, Hoffman entertained us with his humor and imagination while doing so. Charged with conspiracy to incite a riot at the 1968 Democratic Convention, Abbie and thousands of protestors converged to bring about the most famous political trial of the decade. This was Abbie's chance to act out in large pubilicity his unique and peculiar brand of theater that he had mastered so well. Abbie was at center stage during the trial, setting the whole tone of the affair. There he was able to communicate the ideas of his new radical style, which were both totally amusing and penetrating. Asked where he resides, his reply is " I live in Woodstock Nation. It is a nation of alienated young people. We carry it around with us as a state of mind in the same way the Sioux Indians carry the Sioux Nation around with them. It is a nation dedicated to cooperation versus competition." |
